Shopping in and around Knighton

 

Knighton probably has one of the best collections of family owned traditional and specialist shops in the UK. Follow our walk around the town to see our selection – and maybe find some of your own on the way. Our route takes you left out of the gates of the house, down to Bradfords and then up the hill on the left hand side, up the pedestrianised section and back down the other side, further up the main street to the Offa’s Dyke centre, back down the main street, turning left as you get to the little square, along Station Road and back.

 

Turn left out of Ffrydd House down to Bradfrds and then head up the hill:

Bradfords (on the first corner, 100 metres from the house). A traditional general hardware store with a good selection of plants in season.

In the building beyond Bradford’s, down the street beside, is a second hand furniture shop, open Thursdays and Fridays and the 1st Saturday in the month.

Further up the road, near the clock tower is a hand made furniture and upholstery shop

This general variety store has a good range of country clothing and saddlery items and bridles.

Starting up the pedestrianised section you will find Price’s – on the left is the furniture side and on the right is the perfect example of a traditional drapery store.

Starting back down the pedestrianised area, on the left hand side, this shop sells second hand designer children’s clothes. (About to move to Ludlow)

The Offa’s Dyke Antique Centre – a treasure trove of collectibles

Continue left up the main street until you reach the Offa’s Dyke Centre: including the Tourist Information Centre, Gift Shop and exhibition about the Dyke and the Long Distance Path.

Return back down the street to choose your wedding finery.

Turn left at the beginning of the little square, to the only ‘chain’ shop in town: Boots the Chemist.

 

Carry on to the right of the Horse and Jockey

An interesting second hand furniture shop – belongs to the same people as the second hand furniture shop next to Bradfords’s and also open Thursdays Fridays and the 1st Saturday in the month.

Continue past the Horse and Jockey along Station Road to Precious Earth, stocking a wide range of environmentally friendly paints together with interesting small kitchen and household items.

A little further on, on the opposite side of the road: Knighton’s own specialist Table Soccer shop.

Turn back along Station Road to the war memorial and turn left towards FfryddHouse. Immediately on the left is Elaine’s Beauty Spot with a wide range of treatments.

 

As well as the shops listed, there are supermarkets, banks, charity shops, pubs and take aways as well as the landmarks of Knighton: the clock tower and the church.
