National Trust. 1,700 acres of parkland and farmland with lovely views. Exhibition of the history of farming. Lower Brockhampton – medieval moated manor house. Grounds open all year. House open March-October.

 

Bryan’s Ground, Presteigne

3 acres of gardens, first planted in 1913. Open early April to late July, Saturday-Monday.

 

Burton Court, Eardisland, near Leomonster

900 year old house, mentioned in the Doomsday Book, influences of many periods since then. Guided tours by the family. Open by appointment only.

 

Croft Castle, Near Leominster

Castellated manor house set in stunning countryside with panoramic views. Fine Georgian interiors, 1,500 acre estate with iron age fort and views of 14 old counties. Shop, tea room. Park open daily. Castle – tours only.

 

Cronkhill, Attingham Estate, near Shrewsbury

National Trust. John Nash Italianate villa. Open some Wednesdays in summer.

 

Eastnor Castle, near Ledbury

Hampton Court Castle and Gardens, Hope under Dinmore, near Leominster

Medieval castle dating from the 15th century with an estate of more than 1,000 acres, including organic garden, Victorian walled garden. State rooms, cafe, children’s play area. Open daily June-August, Tues to Sunday and Bank Holidays April-May and September-October. Frequent events are held.

 

Hawkstone Park Follies, North West of Shrewsbury

Historic woodland fantasy with castles, cliffs and follies. Open every day June-August. Check for other months.

Talgarth Mill

Dating from the 18th century, renovated with a lottery grant in 2010, complete with wood-fired oven, onsite bakery, riverside cafe and gardens. Open daily in summer, Wednesday to Sunday October-April.

 

Westonbury Mill Water Gardens, 1.5 miles West of Pembridge

3 acre garden with streams, moisture loving plants and lovely views. Open daily April to Setember.

 

 

Wilderhope Manor, Much Wenlock

National Trust. Elizabethan gabled manor house. Being refurbished – check opening times.
