****Knighton Accommodation - Ffrydd House Independent Hostel - has become the first hostel in Wales to be awarded 5 stars by Visit Wales****
|
Ffrydd House Independent Hostel offers eco-friendly, self-catering accommodation in Knighton, Mid Wales – home of the Offa’s Dyke Path and Glyndwr’s Way National Trails. Finished to a very high standard, Ffrydd House is a small hostel offering spacious, clean and comfortable accommodation for up to 6 guests.
Having spent 2 years living in hostels and backpacker accommodation around the world we know what sort of facilities we dreamt of arriving at - having spent the day travelling by foot, bike, bus, etc. We now offer these facilities at Ffrydd House hostel to walkers, cyclists and all other holidaymakers.
As experienced long-distance walkers we often longed to stop somewhere to take a break and have a relaxing rest day. We offer a large enclosed garden in which you can while away a quiet afternoon and - unusually for a hostel – a bath to relax those aching muscles.
Ffrydd House offers the only self-catering hostel in Knighton. If, however, you do not feel like cooking after a tough day outdoors we are almost opposite the award winning Saffron Indian Restaurant and take-away (highly recommended) and Knighton boasts many other pubs, restaurants and take-aways. If you would like to cook we are very near an independent supermarket and several grocery shops. See our local information page for more details of food options.
Ffrydd House hostel applies environmental principles in such a way that demonstrates that being environmentally friendly does not have to involve hair shirts and compromised comfort. We want to show that living in an eco-friendly way is not scary and is not obviously different to the life you currently lead. The changes we have made are subtle but effective – the idea is that you will not even notice! British holiday makers can immediately make a positive choice by choosing to holiday in the UK.
Knighton is a small, busy market town and is the only town situated actually on Offa’s Dyke – its Welsh name “Tref-y-Clawdd” meaning “town on the Dyke”. With part of the town - including the railway station - in England, Knighton typifies the mix of Welsh and English heritage found in the Marches.
Perhaps best known as the home of the Offa’s Dyke Association, Knighton is mid-way along the Offa’s Dyke Path National Trail and at the start of the Glyndwr’s Way National Trail. The Offa’s Dyke Centre, less than 10 minutes walk from Ffrydd House hostel, offers extensive information on the National Trails, the history of the area and local walks. It also hosts the Knighton Tourist Information Centre.
We offer secure storage for cycles as this part of Wales is full of glorious green lanes, quiet and perfect for all ages and abilities to explore by bike. Whether you are looking for a gentle cycle ride through country lanes, a challenging tour ride or mountain biking opportunities you won’t be disappointed by Knighton and its surrounds.
If you require any further information about the house, Knighton, or the surrounding area please contact us. We hope that you come for a comfortable, relaxing and environmentally friendly stay.
Your hosts,
Alice and Gary
